My favourite band announcement was a good few years ago whilst playing at a dance in a (now closed) well known dancehall in Manchester.
At the end of the evening, after quickstepping, waltzing and foxtrot ting our little hearts out for three hours ,the owner came on stage and said how great it was to hear such a great singer singing the lovely Irish songs reminding them of how lovely Ireland was….and how about the amazing drummer, the great solos, the solos and let’s hear it for the lead man (that would be the lead guitar player)…..the mighty solos, wasn’t he amazing at the solos….there followed a moment of silence…… Followed by……..Oh, and the other lads as well!
So the moral of the story is, if you are the Bass player, or rhythm gtr player, and you want to be noticed…… “TO HELL WITH THE GROOVE, PLAY SOLOS”.
